Cloudlink Oberbayern
A project to participate
for school classes
in Upper Bavaria and around the world.
The corona pandemic has shown us the fragility of the coordinate system in which our everyday life moves.
Many things we take for granted are suddenly dangerous balancing acts: sporting events, parties, family celebrations, vacations, long-distance travel, school visits....
Behind every real encounter with people lurks a warning exclamation mark.
Streaming, online shopping, home offices, online classes, webinars, team meetings, zoo parties have become the norm.
The pandemic has accelerated the shift of our social lives to the cloud.
The globe-spanning digital cloud, seems equally near and equally far from any point on earth. Despite its material foundation in thousands of server farms, we perceive it as an immaterial entity. As a virtual commons, the cloud forms a shared space that magically connects us. Ephemeral and intangible, like the clouds in the sky whose beauty we share wherever we are.
Cloudlink embraces the cloud metaphor.
As a collective work of art, it combines cloud images from children and young people to create a cloud carpet in virtual and real space.
School classes from the region around Murnau on the one hand and different countries on the other hand are invited to paint clouds in class.
The process of painting is the starting point for reflections on technical progress, globalization, pandemics and climate change, on clouds as a subject of research, as a space of longing and as a shared good that spans the globe.
The images are digitized and woven into a carpet of clouds in the cloud. A hybrid structure is created, digital and materialized at the same time according to the requirements of the pandemic.
The digital cloud carpet can be visited by everyone on a website.
As a textile room installation, a fabric web with all submitted clouds will be shown in the exhibition "neu gedacht“ in Murnau (Germany).
Implementation
1. Cloud pictures:
January - May 2022
Participating school classes make cloud paintings as part of their lessons and send 1 cloud painting per student
2. Website: February - May 2022
A website documents the progress of the project.
The cloud carpet will be expanded to include the incoming pictures and will grow continuously.
3. Materialization:
A fabric sheet with all the clouds will be printed for the exhibition.
It will be shown as a room installation in the exhibition. The exact realization varies depending on the number of clouds and the resulting length of the fabric web.
Material: textile digital printing on organic cotton.
Participants:
School classes of all ages.
In addition to art classes, cloud paintings can be created in the context of other subjects (e.g., general education, science, geography, literature, history, etc.).
Cloud Pictures:
Materials and techniques can be chosen freely: e.g., crayons, colored pencils, graphite pencils, markers, wax crayons, collage, photography, etc.
Image Format:
square. (Rectangular images will be cropped)
File formats: jpg, tiff, psd, pdf (scan or photographed, e.g. cell phone photo).
If this option is not available, original images can also be sent.
Labeling:
Images will be labeled by class.
Required information: City, Country. (e.g. Murnau, Germany)
Optional information: School, class.(e.g. class xy, elementary school XY..)
